Agios Ioannis Beach

The closest beach to the capital of the island, Agios Ioannis Beach is a crescent shaped sandy beach with turquoise waters and breathtaking sunsets. Although the beach is quiet and rarely crowded several bars, cafes and tavernas are peppered around it. The beach extends for nearly three kilometers and is a popular area for kitesurfers and windsurfers.

Egremni Beach

On Lefkada’s rugged south-west coast, Egremni Beach is quite probably one of the island’s most photographed landscapes. Sheltered by a huge cliff, the beach has pebbly white sands that look like sugar and the sea sparkles with turquoise blue waters. It lies approximately 40km from the capital, it can be reached both by land and sea. Egremni Beach consistently figures among the Mediterranean’s top beaches and it is often compared to the Caribbean.

Porto Katsiki Beach

A beach that needs to be seen to be believed, Porto Katsiki Beach is thought to be one of the most alluring natural settings in the Mediterranean. With inviting emerald waters and a half-moon shaped, pebbly shore, the beach is located at the southwestern coasts of Lefkada at the bottom of striking pale white cliffs that extend outward into the sparkling sea. It is 35 km from Lefkada town, near Athani village. Visiting Porto Katsiki Beach will be a one-of-a-kind experience of grandeur and wild beauty on a blue canvas. Stay a little longer and witness one of the most impressive sunsets in the Ionian Sea.

Kathisma Beach

Agios Nikitas Beach & Mylos Beach

Set next to the picturesque secluded shore of Mylos, Agios Nikitas is a tiny picturesque fishing village at the west coast of Lefkada. This family-friendly beach at the village’s bay is calm with a shallow shore and crystal-clear turquoise waters. There is a plethora of taverns, bars, and mini markets near the well-organized beach. A hidden jewel to the south of Agios Nikitas village, Milos Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Lefkada and it can be reached by water taxi from Agios Nikitas.

Eastern and southern beaches

The east аnd south coasts offer more sheltered bays and coves, laсking the drаmatic setting of the north, but that does not meаn yоu shοuld not visit the bеaсhes hidden around this part of the island. Vasiliki, Nidri, Afteli and Ammouso beaches are certainly one of those lesser-known beaches but are ideal throughout the season. The green landscape of the coasts and the crystal turquoise waters will compensate you with their serenity and natural beauty.

The castle of Agia Mavra

Strategically located close to Lefkada town to guard the approaches to the island from the mainland, the imposing medieval castle of Agia Mavra has guarded that narrow peninsula since the 14th century. The fortification building dominates the entrance of the island, while inside its walls are the ruins of various buildings, like the lighthouse that was built in 1891 and the small church of Aghia Mavra. It has undergone extensive renovation and has been very well preserved to this day.

Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum is housed in the Cultural Centre of the town of Lefkada. It opened its doors in 1999 and features exhibitions and archaeological findings from the Middle Paleolithic period to the Late Roman times, depicting the history of the island. It is divided into four rooms and is certainly worth a visit.

Ηoly Μonastery of Faneromeni

The Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni is well- known as the most significant religious monument located between the capital and the village of Frynio. It is the most historic and oldest monastery on the island. Every year thousands of visitors arrive for pilgrimage. Panagia Faneromeni is dedicated to the Assumption of Virgin Mary and is the patron and protector of the island.

Churches

Some of the best attractions in Lefkada are the churches and monasteries that are scattered around the island. Important pieces history and tradition, the beautiful historical structures include basilicas, with the influence of Venetian architecture, usually adorned with iconography and beautifully sculpted wooden iconostases.

Cape Lefkatas

At the southernmost tip of Lefkada, the rugged Cape Lefkatas (also known as Cavo tis Kyras or Cavo Doukato) is one of the most impressive sights of the island. The wild beauty of the landscape with the white steep, vertical cliffs and the deep blue Ionian Sea create an unparalleled experience. In ancient times there was a temple dedicated to Apollo, while according to tradition, the lyric poet Sappho fell on the sharp white rocks when she learned that her beloved Phaon rejected her love. There is also a beautiful lighthouse, called "Doucato" and built in 1890, offering splendid views.

Meganisi

An unspoilt Ionian island with gleaming white beaches and rolling hills, Meganisi is located at the east-southeast of the island of Lefkada. Perfect for a short trip, the only way to reach the island is by ferry from Nydri port in Lefkada. There are three scenic villages on the island Katomeri, Spartochori, Vathy. The island retains its traditional character with beautiful stone houses, picturesque harbours and old windmills.

Nydri Waterfalls

The Nydri waterfalls (or Dimossari waterfalls) is a beautiful cascading waterfall located in the eastern part of Lefkada island, on the outskirts of Nydri. There are two waterfalls; the first is the smallest, while the main waterfall at the end of the path is 12 meters high. At the bottom of the tall waterfall, a beautiful natural pool is formed, which is perfect for a refreshing dip into the pure waters.

Acheron River

North across the channel that separates the island of Lefkada from the mainland, lies the regions of Epirus. The Acheron River is the perfect place for a short escape from Lefkada to Epirus, since it is located in the area of Glyki (North Epirus), about 82km from Lefkada. The river is well-known since ancient times as the mythical waterway to Hades. According to mythology, it was the river through which Charon led souls to Lake Acherousia, where the kingdom of Hades was located.
